'urdu' ghazal in English translation:
1.
aaj agar beetey, to kal ki baat kare'n,
pehle haazir pal se, do do haathh kare'n.
(When the 'today' is still present, why should we talk about tomorrow?
We must take care 'present' first, before it becomes 'past' and brings
sorrow.)
2.
vaqt kare'n barbaad, ulajh kar auro'n se,
yuu'n bhi be-insaafi, apne saathh kare'n.
(We're habitual of wasting our time with people, pugnaciously.
In fact we're adept in doing injustice with our self gratuitously.)
3.
ik anmol hai sarmmaya, apni hasti,
airey ghairey ko kyuu'nkar, khairaat kare'n.
(Our life, which is a gift from God, is such a valuable inheritance.
Why we should give it to anyone without cause in charitable benevolence?)
4.
khud pe qaabu paane se, jo qaasir ho'n,
qaabuu kaisey jeevan ke, haalaat kare'n.
(Whoever doesn't have the ability to control himself, the proper way?
Is also incapable to handle life's variety of activities, which aren't
still, but do sway.)
5.
us ne darshan ki, khairaat na di mujh ko,
jis ki yaad mai'n aa'nkhhae'n, din ko raat kare'n.
(I have kept my eyes open constantly, for a long time to see my love.
But on meeting she always keeps moving her eyes around below and above.)
6.baat
kare'n logo'n se, jab bhi hum koie,
baato'n baato'n mai'n, teri hi bat kare'n.
(My all basis of discussion is consisted of love conversation.
Whatever I utter something to anyone, it's related with my beloved relation.)
7.
tab hi sab andar ki baat, samajhte hai'n,
dil dukhhne par aa'nkhhe'n jab, barsaat kare'n.
(No one tries to understand, how and why someone from insight, is fearful?
People apprehend only when the eyes of sufferer become tearful.)
8.
jo 'Ashraf' se va'ada karke, phir jaaye,
kya samjhota, us zaalim ke saathh kare'n.
('Ashraf'! Who doesn't know about the promise’s sacred importance?
What kind of agreement one can make with that person's ignorance?)
