'urdu' ghazal in English translation:

1.mira jis vaqt ha’nsne ka, zamaana thha,
zamaane ko usi hi dam, rulaana thha.
(The time of mine merriments and happiness usually got upset and exhaust.
The people stood against my ideas so my planning always got lost.)

2.na kii hum ne tamanna, maal-o-daulat ki,
hamaare paas to, gham ka khazaana thha.
(I never ever wished for the wealth, to become rich and proud.
The treasure of the upheavals always put me in the cloud.)

3.voh kehte, gar hamai’n, jeetoge kaise tum,
hamai’n to dil hi daa’o par lagaana thha.
(If my beloved had asked me how I could win her favor.
I would offer her my wishful heart for her fervor.)

4. samajhna mat ghalat, tum mairi baato’n ko,
mira tum ko bulaane ka, bahaana thha.
(If O my beloved! I would have made an excuse to see you.
Don't think I’m wrong, deep love of mine compels my insight to do.)

5.huva achcha, jo aaye tum, mire dil mai’n,
kisi ko to yeh ghar aakhir sajaana thha.
(Somebody sometimes had to establish and restore my heart’s empty city.
So I feel good a sweetheart like you came into my deserted heart’s vicinity.)

6.kasauTi par muqaddar ki, khare hai’n hum,
hamai’n to aap ne bhi, aazmaana thha.
(You can test my faithfulness the way you think is essential.
My humbleness, sincerity and my integrity are apparent credentials.)

7.huve zakhmi, sitam se hum, huva achcha,
saleeqa Thokaro’n ne hi, sikhhaana thha.
(In the process of love, injuries, boredom, and humilities made me decline.
But these obstacles and hardships, helped making my attitude refine.)

8.tijauri thhi ameero’n ki, bhari jaani,
paseena bas ghariibo’n ne, bahaana thha.
(All the time the rich filled their treasures and enriched their resources.
And to make it possible the poor poured their sweats and put their forces.)

9.mohabbat bhi tiri thhi, mufrid ‘Ashraf’,
tiri ghazalo’n ka lehja bhi, yagaana thha.
(‘Ashraf’! My behavior with people is sincere but distinctive, and peculiar.
Likewise my poetry’s interpretation is though divergent but familiar.)
