ghazal in English translation:
1.
mazeed baar-e-khushamad, na hum uThhae'nge,
baghair taire bhi jii kar, tujhe'n dikhae'nge.
(To live a peaceful life I should not praise anyone to get favor.
I must stand on my own feet and in hardship should not seek a lifesaver.)
2. junuun-e-'ishq baRha, gar huduud se apni,
aseer taire sitam ka, use banaae'nge.
(If the madness of mine in the course of love exceeded the limitation.
I'll make my fondness the prisoner of my beloved’s humiliation.)
3. zabaa'n-daraazi pe tairi, rahe'nge chup saadhe,
khamosh reh kay tumhai'n, hum sabaq sikhhaae'nge.
(I'll try to keep myself silent on my opponents’ unnecessary argumentation.
My action of patience, might teach them the lesson of non confrontation)
4. badan ke saare masaamaat, khuun ugle'nge,
ana ka apni agar hum, gala dabaae'nge.
(All the sweat glands of my body will shed blood that time.
Whenever I'll suffocate my egoism's throat, and bring down my ambitions
to decline.)
5. bane'nge sehre ki zeenat, kabhi janaaze ki,
khile'nge phuul, to kitne hi gul khilaae'nge.
(The flowers always provide the sadness and the happiness, an equal accord.
Once will company decorate festivity, other time will beautify the graveyard.)
6. shu’uur aaye to samjho, zavaal aayega,
keh khaas dost kaye, dosti se jaae’nge.
(When you’re awarded by wisdom, must remember the downfall does
follow.
Like many of your true friends, your criticism can swallow.)
7. muravatto'n ke siva, dosto'n ke paas aur hai kya,
naseehate'n hi kare'nge, alam baRhaae'nge.
(The friends of yours only have a sack full of false praises and verbal
blessings.
They only can deliver ineffective advices, which just enhance sufferings.)
8. jala ke auro'n ke ghar, ab yeh kehtay phirte ho,
kabhi bhi chulha na hum, apne ghar jalaae'nge.
(Most people intentionally inflict harm to others and fake repent.
Then they make believe the victims, they won't participate any happy event.)
9. bashar ka rutba khuda ne, diya hame'n 'Ashraf',
khata na kii to usey, kaise munh dikhaae'nge.
( 'Ashraf', when God has granted us the entitlement of humanity.
What answers we give the Almighty if we avoid mistakes, keep from insanity?)
(ii) kare'nge ba'ndgi, shar se nijaat paae'nge.
We will pray to God and in return, will be awarded of getting rid of deviltry.)
10. sitaara mere muqaddar ka, bujh gaya ‘Ashraf’,
aab us ki yaad mai’n har shab, shama’ jalaae’nge.
(‘Ashraf’, the star of my fate has suddenly vanished and did
recede.
Now in its remembrance I’ll enlighten a light when every night does
succeed.)
