'urdu' ghazal in English translation:

 

1. tujh se nazar milaaye woh, jis ko nazar na chaahiiye,
'aql-o-khirad na chaahiiye, qalb-o-jigar na chaahiiye.
(If you don't want your vision, then you stuck your eyes in beloved eyesight.
Befriend with a fool if you want to lose your wisdom, and the insight.)

2. raah-e-hayaat mai'n agar, aaye Himaala, gham nahee'n,
maire tumhaare darmiyaa'n, kuch bhi magar, na chaahiiye.
(In the passage of my life, even if the Himalayas stops me go, I don't care.
But in the process of my love, from any of hindrances, I don't scare.)

3. jis ko tire visaal ki, khwaahish nahee'n, junuu'n nahee'n,
mujh ko woh dil na chaahiiye, mujh ko woh sar na chaahiiye.
(Thats not my heart and brain those don’t carry love, ambitions and strain.
I don't need that kind of body that doesn’t have in it, the affection domain.)

4. tairi talaash mai'n mujhhe, har ik safar qabool, par,
guzara na tu jahaa'n se woh, raah-guzar, na chaahiiye.
(I can accept any kind of passage to reach for my lover’s affection.
But I don't like to walk on the paths, which don’t lead to love direction.)

5. jis ki bhi ho talab tujhhe, uske husuul ke liye,
rasme jahaa'n ka ra'nj-o gham, khauf-o-khatar na chaahiiye.
(Whoever wants true love must have courage to devote for lover demands of any sort.
And must not bear the fear of traditions and rituals of the society in his heart.)

6. raah-e-junu'n mai'n chaahiye, sidq-o-safa, sava, magar,
ishq ki kaargaah mai'n, ilm-o-hunar na chaahiiye.
(Falling in love, is natural process, it doesn't need expertise and formal education.
But to meet its requirements, one needs skills, courage, and determination.)

7. jaise khulus-o-'ishq ki, hoti nahee'n hai'n sarhade'n,
vaise safar mai'n pyaar ke, koi Dagar na chaahiiye.
(It is fact, that the fidelity and sincerity in love, has no bounds.
And in the way of love also, no boundary surrounds.)

8. ik din to kaam aayegi, 'Ashraf ' tire yeh aagahi,
kal ke liye sa'nbhaal rakhh, aaj agar na chaahiiye.
(Look! "Ashraf" one day, you will use your knowhow for your satiation.
If you don't need it now, save it, for your future guidance and direction.)
